My fiancée is a huge fan of Lights, so when we heard that she was performing at the PNE (Pacific National Exhibition) in Vancouver this year, there wasn’t much debate about whether we would go or not.
Concert photography is challenging. The first hurdle is even getting your camera into the venue, most of the time unless you’re press they won’t let you bring any camera in that looks “professional”. That generally rules out any camera that is going to perform well in low light, and concerts are always low light. When you combine low light with subjects that move around all you can do is crank up the ISO and hope for the best.
All things considered I am very happy with these shots. If I hadn’t been so far away I am sure I could have done much better, but we got there late and weren’t willing to pay extra for a premium spot at a “free” concert.
