If you read my article on Eckhart Tolle and his book, The Power of Now, then you may have been left with the impression that I don’t value anything he has to say. The truth is however that despite my many misgivings about the book, I find his overall message to be quite awesome.
That message is to live for the moment. It sound so simple, but so few people do it. Most of use are either caught up with worries about the future, or overcome by burdens from out past.
What were doing today seems nearly irrelevant when all we can think about is what we want to be doing next week, or month or year, or worse, finding comfort in what we did do years ago, or “when we were kids”.
What a waste! The past does not matter because we can no longer change it. We cannot go back in time and give ourselves a happier childhood or avoid a messy break-up. We can’t retrace our steps in hopes of finding where we veered off onto a rougher path and tripped. Even if you could the most you could achieve by doing so is the loss of an important life lesson that has taught you to avoid similar mistakes in the future!
